General FAQs

Why are there different Rotaract Clubs?
With Rotaract a global organisation, you’ll often find multiple Rotaract clubs within the same area. But just because they’re in the same area doesn’t mean that the clubs themselves will be the same!

There are a number of reasons as to why you’ll find different Rotaract clubs around the place, and a number of reasons why you might look to join one club over another:

  • Location – Some places are more convenient for members to get to than others, meaning if there’s a club closer to you, it might be worth joining to save you some travel time.

  • Time – There’s no set time that Rotaract clubs meet, with each club generally setting the time and date for their meetings. As a rule of thumb though, Rotaract clubs will meet every two weeks. For example, some may meet on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 6:30pm, while others might meet every second and fourth Thursday of the month at 7pm. As a result, finding a time that best suits your busy lifestyle will influence which club you’ll look to visit, or join.

  • Vibe – Every club will have a different vibe, as each club will be made up of different people with different goals for their club, meaning one club may be more aligned with your goals or idea of helping the community than other clubs. Similarly, one club may meet at a pub with a more relaxed meeting style, while others may choose to meet in a more professional setting. Regardless of the club though, guests will be welcome at meetings, so you can always drop in get a feel for the club and its members.

I can’t choose between clubs. Can I be a part of multiple Rotaract clubs?
As much as we admire your enthusiasm, it isn’t recommended to be a member of multiple Rotaract clubs, as you not only risk stretching yourself too thin, but you may not be able to get the most out of being a member of each club.

If you are interested in being involved with multiple Rotaract clubs, you can always coordinate with clubs to come to meetings or volunteering events as a show of support, or be the bridge to allow clubs start doing joint activities and events together. After all, many hands make light work!

I’ve heard there’s membership fees involved with Rotaract?
There are membership fees involved with Rotaract clubs, although how much you’ll pay to become a member will ultimately come down to each individual club. The Rotaract Club of Brisbane Rivercity has a yearly membership of $75 for those who become a full member of the club, although you’ll get a few extra goodies when you join. Check out below on how to become a member of Rivercity.

What are the membership fees used for?
Membership fees are used to cover general expenses of the club, with new Rivercity members also receiving a club polo shirt and name tag when they have paid their membership fees.

Why should I get involved with Rotaract?
Joining Rotaract allows you to experience new things, meet new people and give back to the local and international community. But Rotaract isn’t just about giving back, it’s about paying it forward too, with Rotaract an excellent way to network with like-minded individuals, as well as open up a world of possibilities that weren’t available to you before, or that you didn’t even know existed!

How long has the Rotaract Club of Brisbane Rivercity been around?
The Rotaract Club of Brisbane Rivercity was chartered in 2015, when it was discovered there was a lack of Rotaract clubs within Brisbane. I’m at the Pig ’N’ Whistle. Who should I be looking out for?
The Rotaract Club of Brisbane Rivercity meets in the back room of the Pig ’N‘ Whistle, known as the Churchill Room. You’ll find this past the outdoors smoking area of the pub, on the river side of the premises. You’ll often find a group of young people chatting in this area between 5:30 and 6:30pm, so come and say hello! If you’re nervous about walking up to people, or you’re just not sure if the people you see are part of the Rivercity club, just look for some name tags with the Rivercity logo on them. If all else fails, ask the staff at the Pig ‘N’ Whistle to point you in the right direction.

Can I eat during the meeting?
Of course! We know that our meetings potentially fall right in the middle of your usual dinner time, so you’re more than welcome to grab a meal and eat during the meeting. There will be some nights where Rivercity members will also head out to dinner after our meeting for a more relaxed catch up, which you’ll be more than welcome to join!

Is there parking at the Pig ‘N’ Whistle?
There is parking available below the Pig ‘N’ Whistle, in which we generally recommend that you book ahead with Wilson Parking at Riverside Center Carpark, as it offers parking for the night from $5. For other transportation options, there’s a taxi rank right outside the Pig ‘N’ Whistle, with bus stops and ferry terminals also close by, and Central Train Station also a short walk away.

How long do meetings usually go for?
Meetings generally last for an hour, running between 6:30pm and 7:30pm. A Chairperson will aim to keep each meeting tracking smoothly to ensure that we wrap up as close to 7:30pm as possible.

Why should I join Rivercity?
Rivercity prides itself on being a fun and welcoming group who are passionate about making a difference. We aim to be more than just a club, with plenty of opportunities to hang outside of meetings, and try to ensure that members get as much out of Rotaract as they put in. While there’s no pressure to join Rivercity straight away, and we understand that life gets busy, the more meetings and Rivercity events that you attend, the more reasons you’ll find to stick around.

How do I become a member of Brisbane Rivercity?
As Rivercity is part of a global community, to become a member, you’ll have to meet some criteria set down from an international level, as well as some guidelines as set down by Rivercity itself.
