Welcome one and all to the next edition of the Rivercity Monthly, a newsletter that, if it ran for President, would win by a landslide. At a time where people begin to dream of the Christmas break and the festivities involved, which includes staying in front of the air conditioner for long periods of time, we might be reminded at how much we actually have to do before then. Obviously, checking out this newsletter is first on the list.
As always, this newsletter aims to point out online resources to help with motivation, goal-setting, and all things related, with a few cheeky extras thrown into the mix. This edition will focus on the benefits of being in a group of like-minded people, and how they affect your lifestyle, thinking and happiness, as well as the benefits of stepping out of your comfort zone.
Passion and Support
The reason why I chose this topic in particular, is because recently I was involved in a conference of a couple of hundred people. Now these people have different backgrounds, different upbringings, different values and different views on world issues. But despite all this, these people can come together and share a greater idea, and become passionate about more ideas as they interact and learn.
On a smaller scale, you might have experience this with your friends, or people who you might have met briefly. Passion can bring people together, and sharing a passion with someone can be exciting as it is rewarding. And this is where the benefits of being surrounded by like-minded people come in, as not only do they share your passion or interest, they want to help you succeed. Professional Speaker Neel Raman summaries this in his article, while Adam Baker’s blog post breaks down the simplicity of combining passion with people. Solomon Thimony’s article also highlights how simply discussing someone else’s passion can influence your own, particularly from a business point of view.
Having friends and a support group has always been a major factor in how we enjoy life, or even make decisions. So it’s not surprising that these same people can help you achieve goals and dreams, sometimes by simply being there to listen to your passion.
Something New, Something Old
Taking the step out of your comfort zone can be a tough one, and one that often requires a push. Trying something new is often synonymous with fear, as we simply don’t know how this new activity will turn out. Sometimes it doesn’t work out, and we wonder why we didn’t stick with old faithful, but sometimes it does work out, and we’re glad we took the step.

BLT of the Month
What’s this? A new segment? Is it even possible that this newsletter could get any better? Yes readers, welcome to BLT of the Month, where I review and recommend the classic BLT sandwich from cafes around Brisbane. Our first BLT comes from Vinnie’s Café and Deli in Newmarket. Locally owned, this small business makes an absolute ripper of a BLT, combining the three key ingredients with ease and perfection. Equally suited for your weekend hangover or weekday brunch. Top quality.
Fun Fact of the Month:
On a daily basis, more money is printed for Monopoly than the US Treasury.
